MBABANE – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy has announced the start of an interdisciplinary geoscience mapping of Eswatini aimed at creating a comprehensive database for minerals located across the country. The project is supported by Taiwan.
Minister of Natural Resources Peter Bhembe said for any meaningful investment to take place in this sector of the economy, the kingdom of Eswatini requires to have quality and reliable geoscientific data and information to entice potential Mining Investors to invest in the country.
The minister stated that the results from this exercise will ensure the much needed excellence in data and geoscientific information dissemination potential Mining investors have been crying for.
“This will update the mineral inventory of the country and help spur investments in the mining industry. We are thankful for the financial assistance received from the Republic of China, Taiwan,” he said.
He continued: “This is a demonstrable effort by His Majesty’s Government to obtain Foreign Direct Investment to generate the much-needed jobs for the country’s youth and mining industry in the country.”
The survey will be done through a low flying helicopter, towing an inflatable balloon. It will be done mostly in the morning hours. The first phase of the survey will cover the Hhohho region as well as parts of the Manzini Region. The information gathered will also feed into infrastructure development goals and could also be used in academia.
