MBABANE– A group of 10 talented lyricists and 4 skilled producers have come together to create a dynamic hip-hop mixtape in just 19 hours.

The project, titled “The Mayham Mixtape,” was recorded at Legends Backpackers, where the artists had a retreat to discuss the music industry. The mixtape showcases the impressive skills of Eswatini’s most prolific rap musicians that include; Sarnilo, Qibho Intalektual, Yellow Bud, BluuJay, Lution, EimSoFly, Louis Lane, AyZee, Grixxly, Kena, B.Sim and CheiStar. The producers include Alex Muti, Zodivac (from Ghana), and the prolific Chaboy. The project is designed to market an exciting annual show called “The Spirit of HipHop.”

The mixtape was recorded in a span of two days at the beautiful Legends Backpackers location, where the artists and producers were able to fully focus on their craft and create something truly special. The result is a six-song mixtape that seamlessly blends the unique styles and talents of each artist, creating a sound that is both fresh and innovative.

“We wanted to create something that truly captures the essence of HipHop and showcases the incredible talent we have here in Eswatini,” said Mzwandile Lution Nxumalo who is the Project Manager and Head of Communication for both the Mayham Mixtape and the Spirit of Hip Hop event.

He added that the environment during the recording of the mixtape was fun-filled in much the same way a school camp is.

“We had given ourselves three days to finish everything, but we ended up doing it in 19 hours because of the positive pressure and the fun of being around other highly creative individuals in the country”, added Lution.

Lution’s words were echoed by Melusi Zox Dlamini who is one of the Executive Producers of the Mayham Mixtape.

“Our focus was mainly on Artist and Product Development. We set up an environment with a deliberate process for exceptionally talented creatives to produce, write, and learn about the music business all while content was being generated. We invited the founder of MOTI who is also MD of Empire Publishing Munya Chanesta. MOTI is the ultimate platform for learning about the African Music Industry. Enabling African creatives looking to enter the music industry by providing premium curated resources, access, and tools necessary in the steps needed to become a major player in the future of the African music business.” – Melusi Zox Dlamini

Lution added that The Mayham Mixtape is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting year for HipHop fans in Eswatini. The mixtape is designed to generate excitement for “The Spirit of HipHop,” an annual show presented by SOFRESH, KrTC of HipHop and Kingdom XLR. The event is set to take place on July 29th at the Albert Millin. This event promises to be a night to remember, featuring some of the biggest names in HipHop and showcasing the incredible talent of Eswatini’s local artists. Tickets for “The Spirit of HipHop” are now available on CompuTicket.

“The Mayham Mixtape will drop sometime before the Spirit of Hip Hop on July 29, so fans can look out for that on all major streaming platforms soon,” said Lution.
