MBABANE – Nozipho Kunene, a 24-year-old unemployed woman of Sigangeni, has vowed the million she won yesterday from Eswatini Mobile ‘Become A Millionaire’ competition, will bring development to her family.

Though Kunene has disclosed that she could not recall how much she spent recharging airtime with Eswatini Mobile, she kept on doing it every time she ran out of airtime. According to her, it had been in her dream to start a business that could assist her further her studies. She stated that the million come at a time when she was still planning on the next step of her life.

She told journalist that for starters she would develop her homestead before proceeding with her business plan. Yesterday she was accompanied by her two brothers for the presentation which she said she thought was just an April fool.

“Now that I have seen the cheque with my name in it, I believe I have indeed won a million,” she said.

“I am grateful to Eswatini Mobile. I don’t know where to start as I am speechless. When I got the call, I didn’t believe because I needed money, and I thought the caller was fooling me. I now see myself as an improved person,” she said.

Kunene’s mobile number was selected from over 80 000 that had qualified for the draw and was done at 2 pm at Eswatini Mobile board room. In total, about 83 872 cell phone numbers had qualified for the draw. The ‘Become A Millionaire’ competition was open to all Eswatini Mobile customers, post paid and pre-paid and had been running for three months. In fact, for one to qualify needed to recharge with a minimum of E100 which could be once off. At the end of the month the company conducted a draw, announcing the winner publicly.

According to records, the first winner was Lucky Mamba who won E500 000 on 1 June 2021. The second winner was Nondumiso Mkhabela who won E750 000 during a draw conducted last month. With Kunene’s million, the company has given away E2 250 000. This figure excludes the lucrative promotional prices up to E5000 that were being given away on roadshows.
