MBABANE – In a significant step toward promoting entrepreneurship as a push for economic growth, Sebenta National Institute in Manzini has celebrated the graduation of 50 students from various entrepreneurship programs.
Eswatini recognizes entrepreneurship not only for its job creation potential but also for its role in boosting market spending.
According to the Chief Executive Officer at Sebenta National Institute Thembinkosi Mamba, the institution is commitment to cultivating flourishing entrepreneurs.
Mamba said the graduates come from Kwaluseni, Manzini North, Makholweni and Manzini South. “These learners have been with us for the past 12 months and they’ve been trained in different skills including electrical wiring, plumbing sewing and building,” he said.
Phumlani Mamba says the qualifications will help her create employment opportunities even for other individual. Mamba, a female who choosed plumbing as a woman in a male-dominated field, believes she stands a better chance of becoming the best.
Meanwhile, Manzini South Member of Parliament, Owen Nxumalo, emphasized the importance of self-reliance and encouraged them to seek support from local governing bodies. Nxumalo stated, “They must approach the Tinkhundla so that they can be assisted with funding. They must not start looking for employment there’s no employment there’s little chances that they’ll get employment”.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education’s 2018 introduction of Competency-based Education, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and equipping individuals with practical skills for a rapidly evolving job market. As the country continues to emphasize entrepreneurship, the recent graduation marks a significant stride toward cultivating a skilled and self-sufficient workforce.
