MBABANE – If TikTok numbers are anything to go by, there might be a collaboration between Velemseni and South African Idols finalist Lloyiso.
The country’s golden girl jumped on a TikTok open verse challenge where she sang a verse on Lloyiso’s song ‘What would I say’. The video has since been shared and reposted by a number of locals in hopes that it reaches Lloyiso, the verse by Velemseni on the ‘open verse challenge’ has been praised by many as authentic and soul touching.
When spoken to about the possible collaboration, Velemseni said the collaboration would make her happy as it would enrich her as an artist and creative. When asked about the verse, she said it came naturally to her and she went with the flow.
“I just did the challenge because I love Lloyiso’s music, especially that song. It was daunting to post my first real TikTok and the reception has been really good. It’s a fun App where you can do whatever is in your heart.
“I will probably do a lot more. In terms of collaboration, I think we would have to have a real life connection as artists for that to happen. Who knows? It is definitely something I would be proud to do though,” she said.
In addition, she appreciated everyone who has posted and commented on the post. “Your support goes a long way,” she said.
The singer’s journey started years ago, from being a backing vocalist for some of Eswatini’s household names like Bholoja, Siyinqaba and Nomalungelo Dladla- Velemseni has gone on to soar to greater heights.
The Eswatini guitarist and soul singer’s debut album, ‘We are People’, which dropped in 2014, showcased soothing vocals and strong musicality. The project was received well, getting airplay in the country’s major radio stations (EBIS1 and 2).
The 11-track project was produced by David Felgeirolles from France, Martin Berauer from Austria and Eswatini’s Bholoja Ngubane. It led to Velemseni embarking on a US mini-tour in 2014.
Her resume is an impressive one, as her warm mellow voice and acoustic guitar have graced notable events such as the annual Bushfire Festival, FNB Smooth Fest stage, The Orbit Jazz Club and Parliament of Eswatini State Opening just to mention a few.
