Hoy was crowned the Southern African region best on Saturday during the glamorous awards ceremony held in Zambia. She reached the regional awards after having been named in the same category in Eswatini National Sports Awards.

“We would like to congratulate Hayley Hoy for her remarkable achievement at the RASA Awards. As an association we are extremely proud to see rewards of the programs our athletes are in paying off. The sky is the Limit Keep shining Hayley,” reads the statement.

Hoy, who has broken a number of national records in the country from a young age, was among the three other Emaswati who represented the country in the awards. Some of the RASA nominees were Sportsman of the Year – Mancoba Nhlabatsi, Journalist of the Year – Fabrice Musonera and Sportsperson of the Year – Luca Fraser.

Also congratulating Hoy was the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) and the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA). Hoy beat athletes from Botswana and Malawi.

The objectives of RASA are to recognize, reward and celebrate the Region’s sportspersons for iconic and meritorious service in sports under the African Union Sports Council (AUSC).

Last year, the country celebrated taekwondo star Sihlelelwe Matsebula who won the RASA junior man sports person of the year award. The awards were held here in the country at Esibayeni Lodge by the ESRC.
