MBABANE– Emaswati continue to display keen interest in the registration for the Democratic 2023 general election.
This was revealed by Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Communications Officer Mbonisi Bhembe who said as the numbers continue to increase, the elderly, youth and other sectors of society registered to be voters
“President of Traditional Healers Association, Makhanya Makhanya, has also encouraged emaSwati, especially the traditional healers, to register for the upcoming elections,” he said.
Makhanya and other traditional healers registered for the elections yesterday at the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Head offices.
Meanwhile, Bhembe said figures are nearing 300 000 as over 276 000 people had registered for the 2023 National Elections by close of business yesterday.
Figures that were issued by the EBC showed that the overall number of people who registered for the elections since May are 276 956 and increased to 276 956 from 263 551 yesterday.
This means 13 407 people registered yesterday, while 13 705 registered on Tuesday.
Yesterday, 7 268 women registered. A total of 148 042 women had registered by yesterday from 140 774 on Tuesday. Male registrants were 128 914 from 122 775 on Tuesday. Yesterday, 6 139 males registered. Overall, women still lead the registration, which will last until June 14, 2023. The EBC targets to register 650 000 people for the national elections this year.
