MBABANE – Do you need to consult a life coach or a psychologist?

Then head to the Sibane Sami Hotel on April 20 to experience the benefits of seeing one of the two professionals.

The event, presented by The Art of Life, is expected to kick off at 11am and last until 2pm. The theme is ‘Changing Lives, Positioning Mindsets.’

The aim of the youth event is to highlight the difference between treatment for mental illnesses and past traumas and the need for self-discovery, improvement, and growth. This was confirmed by Thamsanqa ‘KrTC’ Sibandze, who is the moderator of the event. The life coach on the day will be Gugu Mthimkhulu and clinical psychologist Phephile Sukati.

Sibandze shared that most people were aware of the role of a counsellor or psychologist. However, the role of a life coach is not yet known or understood.

This event is an opportunity to highlight and explain the differences and links between the two by way of engagement and interaction. Upon fully understanding, from then on, interested people can either make appointments with the psychologist or start the life coaching journey by registering as clients.

The coaching sessions are one-on-one or in small groups, face-to-face and/or online (video). The venue (Sibane Sami Hotel) accommodates 140 guests. Should there be an overflow of registrations and payments, the organisers will schedule yet another opportunity.

Clinical Psychologist Phephile Sukati is a Psychologist at the Psychiatric Hospital and at Tsemba. Life Coach Gugu Mthimkhulu is a former Human Resources (HR) Executive with 30 years of experience at Tambankulu Estates.

It is worth mentioning that the youth in Eswatini have, of late, been overwhelmed and engulfed by a whole lot of pressure on their mental health and general wellness. Be it the absence of jobs, no school fees, having no support structure, no basic needs, peer pressure, bad habits, indecisiveness, and lack of direction, being bullied, self-doubt, and more.

Parents, on the other hand, are overwhelmed with responsibilities, tasks, and expectations, both in the workplace and socially. All these pressures tend to take their time and focus away from their offspring. Parents need support. Schools need support.

While the clinical psychologist counsels and treats patients, the life coach helps the client discover and improve themselves, discovering their life’s meaning and purpose. A life coach does not treat mental illnesses; she refers cases to a psychologist.

For bookings and payments, please call 7602-2223. Tickets to the show are E150. Space is limited, and payment should be done by April 17 to secure space.
