MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has once again swiftly warned the nation of an online scam misrepresenting the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo.
The Government of Eswatini today warned the public of an online scam whereby members of the public receive an email which falsely claims to be from the Minister of Commerce.
“You are welcome my dear to (2023) International Development Association (IDA) funding grants to help Small Business and Farming Development and provide stable employment for Africa citizens,” reads the fraudulent email.
Members of the public were warned by Government that the email is a scam.
The scam uses the Minister’s name recognition, as it uses the Minister’s name in the email address – infoministermanqoba@gmail.com.
The public is advised to not respond to the email, and to mark it as spam.
This is not the first time the Government communications office has had to quell misrepresentations of Government by scammers who claim to be offering the public grant funding in Government’s name.
In previous communications about differentiating online scams from genuine communication from the Government of Eswatini, the Government warned Emaswati to always double check information found online with the official government offices if they are not sure. Government contact information can be found on the official Eswatini Government website, www.gov.sz. The Government also warned the public to lookout for the verification checkmarks on social media sites to make sure that pages which purpot to represent the Government are the legitimate ones.
