MBABANE– “When you are this great, only the body dies,”

The above are some of sentiments that have been used to describe the late Chief Game Ranger Chief Game Ranger George Mashungwane Mbatha.

Big Game Parks National Wildlife Authority has also paid tribute to Mbatha by honoring and highlighting the formidable character he was at work and outside of work.

Mbatha was brutally assassinated in his house at Hlane Royal National Park.  His assassins cowardly attacked from behind, shooting Mbatha in the back.

“He was not only an exemplary example of integrity and commitment to service, but he was also the most effective Game Ranger Eswatini has ever had-and a very dear friend.

“It is said that no one is indispensable. But it is also said that there is always an exception to every rue. Ranger George Mbatha was that exception,” read the tribute note from Big Game Parks in part.

The legacy of Ranger Mbatha’s impeccable 35-year service to the protection and defense of Eswatini’s wildlife and particularly to its rhinos was described as legendary.

The public has been sending their condolences since the news broke last week; Facebook and travel media pages have been abuzz with activity remembering Mbatha.

“He was a kind man, the sweetest ranger I would always encounter and to say I’m still heartbroken is a lack of a better description,” said one social media user.

Another said the killings and violence in the country were being subjected to innocent people. “Mbatha, was a kind man he did not deserve to go out in this way may his legacy live on,” said another.
