MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows is ready to make a return to the Africa’s biggest tournament, CAF Champions League if they win the MTN Premier League.

The red and white outfit have already confirmed with the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) that they will be ready to campaign in the continental tournament, if they are crowned champions.

A victory against Ezulwini United on Saturday at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre will guarantee them the championship. The Club Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya said the CAF slot was a motivation on its own to put more effort and go all the way to win the league.

Swallows are top of the table with 49 points, while Green Mamba, who plays Rangers, is second with 44 points. Swallows only need two points from their two remaining games to clinch the league championship. They will face Young Buffaloes in their last game of the season.

“We did receive a correspondence from EFA, as they wanted to know if we would be ready to play in the CAF Champions League, should we be crowned champions. Our answer was yes and as we are ready to represent the country in the continental,” he said.

Green Mamba is already guaranteed a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup after defending the Ingwenyama Cup with a 1-0 win over Mbabane Swallows last month.

Swallows last competed in the CAF Champions League in 2018 when they made history by reaching the group stages of the tournament. By reaching the group stages, they received about E5 million.

They are expected to be against teams including South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns who had already been crowned South Africa’s DStv Premiership.
