MBABANE – The Health Services has requested emaSwati to continue donating blood during the holidays.

Speaking on EBIS this morning, Director of Health Services, Velephi Okelo said this is a very crucial time to run out of blood because the number of accidents is increasing and people need blood.

“We really appreciate all those who have been donating blood and we also ask them to continue. While enjoying the festive season we should also extend love and kindness to those lying in the hospital waiting for blood hence we plead with emaSwati to not forget the blood bank during the holidays,” she said.

She mentioned that during the holidays the blood unit will be available for those who might want to donate blood, saying that they are everywhere and that their vehicles are all over Eswatini to help those that may have a challenge going to the hospital and brought it closer to them.

“Wherever there is a blood bank vehicle, people are welcome to go there and get more information on donating blood. Potential blood donors should be afraid and judge themselves by their health or by any physical challenge without a proper medical check-up which our staff does before qualifying or forbidding anyone from donating blood,” she said.

Okele further explained that the donated blood does not only help those who had accidents but also those doing chemo-therapy and those giving birth, some tend to lose a lot of blood in the process.
