MBABANE- Bush Travel Tours in partnership with Coca Cola Beverages Eswatini, Eswatini Environment Authority, Eric Slabbert Agencies Eswatini, Status Capital Building Society, Eswatini Tourism and Ezulwini Municipality have decided to take immediate action and host a Green Walk themed ‘Breathe Green, leave nothing but footprints’. This will take place from Gables to Mantenga Falls on November 5, 2022.
This ‘green walk’ is set to promote environment protection and responsible behaviour through waste collection and recycling.
During an interview with Daniel Bushu, the Co-Founder at Bush Travel Tours, he dived into elaborating what the theme of the event entails
“We want Eswatini to start breathing green and by that we would like to sensitise corporates, businesses and the community especially to waste collection and recycling through this green walk which is the main feature of the event,” said Bushu.
Bushu also revealed the problems that he had observed with regards to waste disposal.
“There is too much littering and waste happening in the country and the recycling process is not reaching its full cycle, implying that whatever we are consuming as consumers is not being disposed in the right manner. I have personally participated in clean-up campaigns and within three days there was a lot of waste again so you then realise that we are not lacking people who can clean up, but the problem is people littering. We are calling for a green walk to bring Eswatini back to nature and its authentic nature line as a reminder on how to dispose of waste and recycle as well,” he said.
The co-founder mentioned that all the fees collected during the ‘Green Walk’ would go towards the recycling campaign and encouraged people to join as they would be helping in making the environment a greener and healthier place to be in. The green walk’s (8.5 kilometers) registration fee set at E280.
Bushu also stated that they were encouraging people to bring their waste that is recyclable as that symbolises a start to better disposal of waste in the environment which is why the theme emphasises that people do not leave waste around but their footprints only.
