MBABANE – Through a statement Business Eswatini (BE) has revealed that they are of the view that in a high unemployment environment like that of Eswatini, the alternative is to turn to entrepreneurship.
In the statement, it was mentioned that this would also help to make up for the shortfalls in foreign direct investment (FDI).
In a statement issued yesterday, BE management congratulated the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards winners, especially Thamsanqa Mdluli, who walked away with the grand prize.
BE said entrepreneurship was an indispensable business concept in today’s economies, as it was opposed to normal business conventions.
BE stated that entrepreneurship was underpinned by ingenuity and risk-taking and was the stuff that created a vibrant private sector that could hold its own in a globalised market environment.
The management said entrepreneurship was not only about coming up with unique business ideas but also about implementing them profitably, thereby creating new business sectors which did not exist before.
“It is about creativity of the mind and turning concepts into reality,” reads the statement. It was noted that economies of the world were successful, largely because entrepreneurship was at the epicentre of their economic development and development agenda. “In a high unemployment environment like Eswatini, we have no choice but to turn to entrepreneurship as a means of making up for the shortfalls in foreign direct investment in the country. We have to do this only as a means of creating the jobs desperately needed in the country, especially by our youth,” said BE management.
