CHEF TURNS COVID-19 RETRENCHMENT INTO A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY

MBABANE-There is no doubt that COVID-19 affected a lot of businesses in the Kingdom of Eswatini and all over the world and a lot of businesses closed down because of the pandemic. 

Musa Mamba from Lobamba took a huge knock when he lost his job as a chef at the Royal Swazi Spa after it closed down operations.

Mamba was not derailed but determined to see himself through this pandemic victoriously.

Mamba started his own company, BMS Investments, which is a food catering company, food training class, as well as food delivery service.

The Entertainment Desk interviewed Mamba on how his business came into fruition.

“I started my own kitchen this year in January after the closing of the Royal Swazi Spa where I had worked for ten years as a chef. I had been doing odd jobs for two years here and there to make ends meet and I finally had saved enough money to start out,” said Mamba.

Mamba said that it had not been easy but he found a kitchen to operate in, at Lobamba and had hired two people who assist him with the business.

“I am happy I am doing something I love and that I am good at regardless of the difficulties I have gone through to keep the business alive. Starting this business has also given other people an opportunity get find work,” said Mamba.

Mamba further mentioned that he had been using Facebook to market his business and has gained more clients but he was still making an effort to market his business as he was starting out and had competitors who were all trying to get back post COVID-19.

“I would like to thank my clients for the care and support they have shown me so far. You have awoken within me and my staff a hope that can never be broken,” said Mamba.

Mamba said he was currently using  a taxi or public transport to make his deliveries but was still trying to save for a car to make deliveries easier and quicker  for their clients,” said Mamba.
