MBABANE– Cheshire Homes has come through for a desperate child in need of a wheelchair to go about his daily duties.

The child suffers from Cerebral Palsy and lives with his unemployed mother. Cheshire Homes Director Khabo Dlamini donated a wheelchair to a child.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. CP is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles.

Meanwhile, the young unemployed mother had appealed to the public for assistance when Cheshire responded.

Dlamini stated that the donation is not the final step as the child still needs to undergo physiotherapy, sentiments which were echoed by the rehabilitation technician Artwell Ndebele, who assessed the child and illustrated several exercises that the mother can do to avoid complications such as contracture and to normalize muscle tone.

The Director stated that they were saddened to learn that the father was not supportive, as this is against the Disability Act 2018, which promotes and protects the rights and welfare of persons living with disability.

In addition to that she asked emaSwati to assist with work especially around Mhlambanyatsi for the mother who has O’level. Amongst other things, she asked for food, diapers, and whatever may be of assistance to the family.
