MBABANE – The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is committing to develop the next class of players and the standards of the industry in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Most recently, the CIC organised a training for contractors in the country for them to upskill themselves on financial management as well as business development.
The industry players are all catered for, from the veterans to the new players in the industry. This was revealed by acting Chief Inspector of the CIC, Nonhlanhla Shongwe. “We organised these trainings for our contractors to help capacitate them with better business skills. This comes from our launch of our Contractor Development Strategy within the CIC – which looked into what needs and gaps exist in our industry so that our contractors can run their businesses well,” Shongwe said.
The training was held at the University of Eswatini, which has a Memorandum of Understanding with the CIC. It covered business administration, human resources, marketing, as well as financial management. “What we find is that our contractors always have the technical know-how, and often fall short on the business side of things”, revealed Shongwe.
“We look at all the different aspects of the business, and so you find that a lot of our attendants are new players in the game, the SME’s, based on our different categorisations within the CIC. It is important for our mandate to help these SME’s grow into significant players in the game,” concluded Shongwe.
The training was attended by contractors in building, civil, electrical works, mechanical works, and consultants.
