MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has appointed former Public Service Pension Fund Chief Executive Officer Cleopas Sipho Dlamini as the new Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
The king announced the appointment of Cleopas yesterday during the Sibaya. Dlamini’s appointment comes six months after the death of Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.
The new PM takes over from Themba Masuku, who was acting in the role since Ambrose Dlamini died in December 2020. Prior to the appointment, Cleopas was serving as member of the Senate having been appointed to the house in 2018. Before his appointment as senator, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Eswatini’s Public Service Pension Fund.
The King stated that this appointment was meant to last the remainder of the term that was begun by the Ambrose Dlamini administration in 2018. The King tasked the new Prime Minister to repair the damage caused by the recent violent riots and grow the economy of the country in general.
He said in picking Cleopas he had considered the fact that in 2018, the nation got an opportunity to interact with him and ask him questions as he was in the short list from which Ambrose was chosen.
When addressing Emaswati, the King said, “this is a man that has worked diligently for the country at PSPF and we hope he will lead the Nation with dignity and integrity. We hope he will be able to wipe away the tears of the Nation.”
