MBABANE– EmaSwati are warming up to the elections season!
Yesterday at exactly 5pm, it was recorded that 196 835 people had registered for the upcoming national elections.
Out of the 196 835 people, 92 338 that had registered were males and 104 497 were females.
This was revealed by the Election Boundaries Commission through their official portals of communication.
The communiqué also emphasized that a person who knowingly made a false statement in connection with having that person’s name included in the voters roll commits an offense and is liable to a fine of E20 000 or two years in prison or both and shall be disqualified to as a voter for five years (Voter Registration Act 2013).
Recently, we published that there were piling officers stationed at the registering stations across Mbabane Town have mentioned that over the past five days there has been an improved consistency in registering.
The officers mentioned that in the beginning they would only see back and forth numbers but as time went on they increased.
“People know and are comfortable with registering and exercising their rights. They are looking forward to casting their vote. We see the numbers increase every day,” said Thembelihle Magagula. On Tuesday, there were 164 527 people who had registered. In terms of genders, women still led the registration yesterday.
