MBABANE – The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has encouraged the Construction Industry Council (CIC) to continue strengthening the regulation of standards in the country’s infrastructure development.
The words of encouragement were delivered by Undersecretary in the Ministry, Nhlanhla Motsa, who was representing the Principal Secretary Thulani Mkhaliphi. “We as a Ministry note the progress being made by CIC in improving service delivery. In these uncertain and rapidly changing times in our region and the world over, there is a need for industries and and business to make instant decisions with limited information available – hence the need that industry stakeholders are kept abreast wth current construction sector developments.”
He added that the newly published Construction Industry Perfomance Reports of 2019-2020, 2021-2022 to be presented here today will enable industry to make informed business decisions related to their scope of work. This is envisaged to have a positive effect on the industry’s profitability.
“In addition, construction procurement will always be an improtant issue of national interest, hence there is a need to ensure a standardised construction procurement system, that among other things ensure that infrastructure projects are awarded in a fair, competitive, equitable, transparent, and cost-effective manner,” Motsa added.
The CIC boasts a participation of 1257 contractors registered with the organisation for the year 2022/2023.
