MBABANE – “Did you know? Regularly updating your software ensures your device and apps are protected from the latest threats, and keeps you safer online.”
This was the Central Bank of Eswatini’s (CBE) cybersecurity tip for the public today, as they continue to educate the public at large about the threats related to cybersecurity and people can protect themselves from them.
This is part of the ongoing Eswatini Cybersecurity Awareness month, which began on the first of November and will end on November 30 under the theme “Tivikele, Be Cybersmart”. The CBE also volunteered that “keeping software up to date is an easy way to stay safer online.”
“Turn on automatic updates for your convenience,” added the CBE through their official Facebook page.
The CBE is not the only organization which has spent good part of Eswatini Cybersecurity Awareness Month teaching the public about different ways to protect themselves online.
Eswatini Bank hosted a Blue Table Talks online event where cybersecurity experts spent an hour teaching the public about how protect themselves from different cybersecurity risks. The bank hosted Andiswa Kayoni, who is a Manager in Information Security and Technology, as well as Nokwanda Thwala, who is a Cybersecurity Analyst.
Jonathan Cyber took the opportunity to educate the public about Misinformation.
“Fake news is misleading information presented as news. Its aim is to damage a person’s or an entity’s reputation. Before you share ‘news’ first verify whether this news is credible. Look at the sources of the news, are they credible?” shared Jonathan Cyber, which is a youth owned Cybersecurity consulting company in the country.
The Eswatini Communications Commission, which is the headline organisation pushing for public education of cybersecurity, also offered the public free courses on cybersecurity for the month of November.
The courses were on the introduction to Cybersecurity, Threat Management, and Ethical Hacking.
The course is open until 30 November 2023, and can be access online for free under the EIMPA website.
