MBABANE – With the impending threat of Cyclone Freddy this weekend, government has activated 10 sectors through the National Disaster Management Agency to ensure adequate response.
The activation is in accordance with the Disaster Management Act of 2006. Speaking at his offices in Mbabane, Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku requested Principal Secretaries and Heads of Government Departments, United Nation Agencies to be actively involved in the preparedness response planning for Cyclone Freddy and work with the NDMA to ensure that Emaswati are safe from this impending threat.

- Water, sanitation and hygiene sector
- Health and nutrition sector
- Early warnings sector
- Social protection sector
- Environment and energy sector
- Shelter and camp coordination sector
- Emergency Information, Communications and Technology
- Security sector
“The nation is reminded to always make sure that building structures or homes close to river basins, downstream of dam structures should be avoided at all times. Building safe or resilient structures is the way to go,” Masuku said.
Eswatini has experienced persistent showers since February 7 with extensive damage to the country’s infrastructure.
