DATA CAPACITATION WORKSHOP LAUNCHED

MBABANE – A 3-day workshop on the use of data in policy-making and decision-making has been officially launched.

The workshop was launched today by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology Phesheya Dube, who was represented by under-secretary Macanjana Motsa.

“Data is very important, for policy-making and decision-making, and it can help us understand the problem, the impact of their actions, and the best way to achieve their goals. Data can also help policy-makers communicate, and justify their decisions to the public and other stakeholders,” said Motsa when launching the workshop.

The ‘DataCipation Program Country Consultation’ Workshop on Data collection, storage, and use is hosted with the support of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA) bringing together different stakeholders in the country. This is in line with the Speaking on behalf of Dr Gideon Nimako expanded on the goal of the programme by the African Union.

“We intend to strengthen the capabilities of member states by using digital and non-digital technologies to engage ordinary citizenry in the implementation of Agenda 2063. We want to provide easy-to-communicate information to ordinary citizens so that they can comprehend what Government, regional, and continental bodies are doing,” said Dr Nimako.

He added that the hope is to use the data coming out of this implementation to improve the innovation ecosystem of member states.

The 3-day workshop is organised to help Eswatini expedite its achievements of the goals in Africa’s Agenda 2063.
