MBABANE– Honoured for fighting diseases in Eswatini and succeeding at it!

This is the Deputy Director of Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Rejoice Nkambule, who was honoured by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The American giant health facility honoured Nkambule when closing off the Woman’s Month, which is March. The Deputy Director of Health Services was honoured for fighting diseases in Eswatini, especially HIV/AIDS.

Worth noting is that Eswatini is one of the few countries that have reached and exceeded the 95-95-95 HIV/AIDS goal and Nkambule was one of the healthcare workers and officials in the country to fight the ‘then’ scourging pandemic.

When sought for comment, Nkambule said she was excited about the recognition by the CDC, saying she was happy to have been one of the people who led the country out of the catastrophic HIV/AIDS pandemic.

“My work started being tense when we had to disseminate scientific information about HIV/AIDS to people, and to make them accept ARTs,” commented Nkambule.

ARTs is the acronym for antiretrovirals treatment.

“The first case of HIV in the country was confirmed in 1986 and since then, the Ministry of Health has been in a pro-longed battled and as a country, we have achieved a lot to date,” said Nkambule, explaining her contribution in the health system in the country. CDC is the nation’s leading science-based, data-driven, service organisation that protects the public’s health. For more than 70 years, they have put science into action to help children stay healthy so they can grow and learn; to help families, businesses, and communities fight disease and stay strong; and to protect the public’s health.
