MBABANE – With his perfect height and body, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has shown basketball players in Taiwan he has the skill.
This was evidenced today, as he entered the fourth day of his visit in Taiwan. His pictures playing the sport have been uploaded on his Facebook page. He played the sport during his visit to the home court of the Tainan TSG Ghost Hawks, a professional basketball team based in Tainan City.
It looks like the PM’s visit to the basketball team has paid dividends for Eswatini. “I am pleased to share that the Team agreed to draw up a framework to support the development of basketball in Eswatini. In addition, Taiwan Ambassador to Eswatini, H.E Jeremy Liang announced that the Embassy would inject E100 000 towards supporting a youth basketball tournament in the Kingdom,” Dlamini said.
He further said the country was grateful for such support, once again underlining the strong ties between the two Nations. He pointed out that His Majesty’s Government believed in the power of sport to unite Eswatini nation and bring sustainable jobs to Emaswati, particularly the youth and they would continue to invest and pursue partnerships for the development of sport in Eswatini.
The PM had started his day at The Taipei Medical University, where he learnt about the University’s programmes. The University, according to the PM, expressed interest in working with Eswatini to help the country fight chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer.
He then proceeded to tour the Taoyuan Refinery Plant in Taoyuan City. As Eswatini embarked on constructing its first ever Strategic Oil Reserve, the PM said it was important that Emaswati learned how the country’s partners partners approached similar projects, particularly with regard to environmental protection and maintenance issues.
