MBABANE– Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku has announced that Eswatini will commission a Disability Council next week.
The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) revealed this when addressing the senate in Parliament yesterday. The DPM was delivering the report from his office for the last quarter of the 2022-2023 financial year.
The Deputy Prime Minister revealed the establishment of the council when answering questions from senators like Prince Hlangabeza and Mphatfwa.
“When will we sit down and conference as a country, to determine how the disabled live, because we have to accept that we will always have disabilities?”, asked Prince Hlangabeza.
The DPM responded to this and other questions, citing some of the responsibilities to be carried out by the Disability Council.
“Next week, probably on Thursday, we will be announcing the Disability Council, which goes hand in hand with the Disability Act of 2018. We will call this portfolio committee when we establish this council,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
“Some of what the council will do is to determine who should be included in the Disability grants. Some cases are easy to determine, and some require the expertise of a doctor, where you will find that we have a doctor as part of the council,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.
The senate also discussed this year’s budget for the DPM’s office.
