MBABANE – Out-going national team, Sihlangu, coach Dominic Kunene will lead the team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Angola and Mauritius.
He will be assisted by the duo of Green Mamba Coach Ernest Mavuso and Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane, who were part of the technical bench during the two legged TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preliminary games against Somalia.
The trio is set to announce the squad to face the two teams on Wednesday (May 22, 2024). Sihlangu face Angola on June 7 in an away match and they will visit Mauritius four days later.
Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane said the process of hiring a new coach was going to take some time, while the two matches were already about three weeks away.
“The coaches who led the national team in the games against Somalia did a good job and while we are still in the process of hiring a new coach, the trio will continue to lead the team for the up coming two matches,” he said.
Interested candidates for the vacant post of the national team coach have until May 31 to apply. Simelane said he hoped that the squad would be announced soon and start camp in preparations of the two matches.
Dominic Kunene’s contract ended in March and it he was given a month to lead the team in the preliminary round against Somalia, which they won by an aggregated score of 5-2.
Sihlangu is in group D against Cameroon, Cape Verde, Libya, Angola and Mauritius.
