MBABANE – The Deputy Prime Minister’s office continues to work towards improving the livelihoods of under-privileged Emaswati. The most recent programme involved the World Vision Eswatini (WVE) signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Esicojeni Foundation and the government, through the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office (DPMO).
According to World Vision Eswatini (WVE), “this puts into action the extension and expansion of a livelihood project that aims to empower child-headed households through agricultural interventions. The 100% locally-raised resources amount to 4.2 million Swazi Lilangeni, E2 million contributed equally by WVE and Esicojeni, while the DPMO’s contribution amounts to E2.2 million.”
“The Funds from the DPMO will be for hiring tractors to plough fields for households and sourcing farming inputs and livestock (goats) to be provided to 300 child-headed households across the Hhohho and Manzini regions”, reads an official statement from WVE.
“Esicojeni Foundation funds will go towards hiring tractors to plough fields for beneficiaries and sourcing farming inputs and livestock (goats) to be provided as start-up inputs for 250 child-headed households across the other two regions in the country, with Esicojeni allocated families in Lubombo and WVE allocated Shiselweni region. WVE’s contribution shall be used for funding any surplus costs related to the above, operational costs, as well as technical and administrative project costs. This will help accelerate the transformation of a total of 550 child-headed households in vulnerable communities in the four regions of Eswatini,” concludes the WVE statement.
