MBABANE – Drivers have been warned not to be carried away on new Nhlangano-Sicunusa (MR 13) Road, as that might lead to accidents.
This warning was issued by Eswatini National Road Transport Council Chairman Sabelo Dlamini today (April 12, 2024). Speaking to Eswatini TV, Dlamini also warned public transport drivers to ensure that they did not overload their vehicles while driving on the road, or any other route.
Dlamini said the 43-kilometre road had schools and other busy areas along it, which meant that it was not only exclusive to drivers. The road was also used by other members of the public. Dlamini urged drivers not to be carried away by the fact that the road was smooth.
He said drivers needed to ensure they protected the members of the public, as many of them were their customers. According to Dlamini, the road presented a good business opportunity for public transport drivers, as their vehicles would not frequently develop mechanical faults, calling upon them to spend more money, trying to fix the faults.
Chief Roads Engineer Vincent Dlamini said the construction of the road had actually come to an end. What was left now was for them to fence the road so that motorists could be protected from potential accidents, especially the ones that could be caused by livestock. He also said there was a need to plant grass where necessary to avoid soil erosion. The Nhlangano-Sicunusa road also involves a 21-kilometre stretch that branches off the main road to Gege Border Gate.
