MBABANE– There will be a E1 000 prize for the rare-as-a-hen’s tooth hole-in-one in Saturday’s Futis golf tournament.

Mbabane Golf Club will host the year’s second edition of the tournament and a field of over 50 golfers is expected at the Mbabane golf course. According to club secretary Thabiso Gama, the format on the day will be the Individual Stableford.

“Registration is already opened for the Futis tournament and golfers can register by sending an SMS to the secretary. We have a hole-in-one prize of E1 000 in one of the holes,” he said.

A hole-in-one, which is also known as an ace occurs when a ball hit from a tee to start a hole finishes in the cup. However, a ball hit from a tee following a lost ball, out-of-bounds, or water hazard is not a hole-in-one due to the application of a stroke penalty.

Holes-in-one most commonly occurs on par 3 holes, the shortest distance holes on a standard-size golf course. Longer hitters have also accomplished this feat on longer holes, though nearly all par four and par five holes are too long for golfers to reach in a single shot.

Brian Mayisela won the January Futis tournament with an excellent score of 38 points, beating 34 other golfers. Coming second was Zwelisha Dlamini on 37 points while Ephraim Kunene played a level par 36 points to finish third.

Vusi Norman Dlamini and Albert Mavuso completed the top five tied on 35 points with the former winning on the count back.
