MBABANE– The MTN FinTech Chief Executive Officer Sam Shongwe has announced a E2 million sponsorship for the year 2023 edition of the MOMO Cup Tournament.
In the previous year, Nsingizini Hotspurs bagged a price of Six Hundred Thousand Emalangeni. This year they are expected to battle and defend the title as they were crowned champions during last year’s edition of the MOMO Tournament.
According to a report sent to this publication, the CEO appreciated the support received from all soccer fans and customers at large on their debut year of the MOMO Cup. He stated that there are 51 soccer clubs registered on their MOMO platform, demonstrating that their reach goes beyond the Premier League Eswatini (PLE)/NFD partnership.
“We are looking forward to this year’s MOMO Cup tournament and anticipating passionate and healthy battles in the field”, the CEO said. He added that it is their desire the cash injection uplifts teams and the overall development of soccer as a sport in Eswatini.
In a video on Facebook, the officer said that the Premier League Eswatini (PLE) chairman and executives have always stated the number of tasks it takes for them to run those teams.
Shongwe mentioned that as sponsors of the Tournament, they hope they assist in the running and maintaining of the teams. He added that the sponsors ensure the teams have activities to part take in. “We want to give back to the teams, we want to give back to the supporters”, said the Chief Executive Officer.
The Officer argued that they want to make sure that the game of football continues even after the Premier League Eswatini (PLE) season. He further mentioned that they believe sponsorships are a vehicle towards the promotion of young soccer professionals, opening opportunities for them on international stages.
He thanked the Honorable Minister of Sports Youth and Culture Harris Madze Bulunga, as MTN FinTech they are once again pleased to bring Eswatini the second MOMO Cup with a total sponsorship value of E2Million.
