E214 000 WORTH OF GOOD NEWS FOR HOME AFFAIRS MINISTRY

MBABANE – The Min­istry of Home Affairs continues to be on the roll with their quest to provide an excellent service to the Nation.

In a quest to improve birth registrations countrywide, Pact Eswatini has donated equipment worth E214 000 to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), donated laptops, printers and desktops to assist with birth registration at health facilities countrywide.

Pact’s Acting Country Director Muzi  Nkambule mentioned during the handover that the organisation had in the past assisted beneficiaries from the different tinkhundla centres countrywide in attaining national identity documents.

In this regard, he mentioned that from 2022 until 2023, at least 4 713 children and 259 caregivers were able to access identity documents or other vital national documents.

“Through resources from PEPFAR, our support to orphans and vulnerable children focuses on ensuring children are safe, live in stable families and have access to health services and are able to attend school,” he said.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Princess Lindiwe thanked the organisation for lending a hand in developing the ministry’s initiatives.

She thanked PEPFAR representatives as she mentioned the donation would go a long way in assisting the ministry reach a 100 per cent universal birth registration as per the dictates of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

She said it has always been their  wish to establish registration centres at health facility level and we currently have such offices at Mbabane Government Hospital in the Hhohho Region and RFM Hospital in the Manzini Region.

It was further announced that, soon, every region in the country will have birth registration centres.This was revealed by Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe.

She said they were hoping and praying to open another two service centres at Good Shepherd Hospital in the Lubombo Region and Sithobelweni Health Centre in the Shiselweni Region. The minister further stated that such a donation from PACT came at a critical time and government extended its sincere gratitude towards the organisation.
