MBABANE – The Ministry of Public Service has set aside E220 million to cater for public servants cost of living adjustments (COLA) for the year 2022/2023.
The development comes after a meeting in April by the Government with the Public Servant Associations (PSA’s) like Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), National Public Service and Allied Workers’ Union (NAPSAWU), Swaziland National Association of Government Accounting Personnel (SNAGAP), Swaziland Nurses Association (SNA), and the Eswatini Principal’s Association (EPA). The meeting included the discussion of a common mandate between the PSA’s, which involved the COLA, amongst many issues.
This also follows an ongoing disagreement between Government and the PSA’s, as well as the PSA’s disagreeing amongst themselves. This disagreement has been brought forward to the Conciliation and Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) where the parties will meet on the 7th of July.
In the meantime, Government has committed to fast-track some of the COLA decisions for the benefit of civil servants.
E55 million is set aside for the year 2016, and E15 million has been reserved for monitoring and evaluation of public service by a consultants.
