MBABANE – The new mall construction project in Manzini, which is set to generate over 1000 job opportunities, begins today.
This was revealed by Minister for Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo, who stated that the state-of-the-art mall construction, officially opened today (May 13, 2024) in Manzini. He was saying this on Eswatini TV’s programme known as Market View today. During the interview, Khumalo said the project was expected to stimulate further investment and contribute to long-term growth in the country’s hub.
The mall will be built at the Old Trade Fair in Manzini, right at the Old Trade Fair Ground. Khumalo stated in the programme that the mall was slated for completion by the end of next year and was projected to generate job opportunities. He shared that Nthoese Development has been tasked with the construction of the mall and expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s commencement, as land clearing had already begun, marking the start of a phased construction process.
Nthoese Development Manager Antonio Sousa, who was also in the programme, mentioned that the project planned to employ approximately 600 to 750 direct employees, excluding casual workers, during the construction phase. Additionally, once the mall became fully operational, they aimed to provide employment opportunities for around 1 000 to 1 500 direct employees.
Last year in May (during last year’s Bushfire Festival), His Majesty King Mswati III officially blessed the construction of the mall. The King also officially opened Pick n Pay Supermarket, which is situated at Mashayitafula in Matsapha. The King also officially opened the Malkerns Square, after opening the supermarket.
