E429M USED TO PAY OVER 83 000 ELDERLY

MBABANE – Government has, in the 2023/24 financial year, used E429.3 million to pay 83 123 elderly people.

According to information sourced from the Facebook page of the DPMO, currently the Deputy Prime Minister’s office (DPMO) is paying elderly grant to 83 123 senior citizens in the country.

During 2023/2024 Financial year, E429.3 million has been used to pay E500 monthly grants. This transpired during the consultative meeting of Members of Parliament (MPs) who are members of the Portfolio Committee of the DPMO. The consultative meeting took place at Royal Villas, Ezulwini.

DPMO’s Social Welfare Services Director Mcusi Shongwe added that E48 million was spent to pay 14 802 people with disabilities, which was E280 per month.

This grant is expected to be increased to E400 per month during 2024/25 Government’s financial year. Eligibility into this grant is through certification by a qualified medical doctor.
