This was announced by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo. He said the retail sector is coming strong.

“We are told that in Malkerns, African Alliance is starting Phase II of the retail project that already exists there. In Siphofaneni, there is already a project going on at the moment, where Pick n Pay is going to be built, we expect a big mall in Fairview,” he said.

The Minister yesterday tabled the post-COVID-19 economic recovery report issued where a number of projects on all sectors were coming into the country which would bring in an investment worth E15 billion and over 10 000 jobs for the next two years.

Meanwhile, the investment value of the Siphofaneni project is E60 million and once built the shop will have an estimated number of employees which is 80.

According to the Minister’s report, the company in charge of the construction is a local company, MA Properties and the project is at production stage.

Minister Khumalo said it was projects like these that make the economy grow and become stronger, he further approved the number of people to be employed saying it helps eradicate the unemployment rate. “We think the economy will continue to be stronger. We know that we are still suffering from a lack of jobs, but over time, people will see the fruits of the economic growth translating into actual job opportunities as each of these sectors starts to thrive,” he said.
