MANZINI – Did you know that handmade beadwork can help you provide for your family?
Yes it is possible.
Eswatini Positive News team on Thursday visited 39-year-old Carlotta Thembisile Sifundza from kaShewula, at the Manzini Market, where she sell her handmade beadwork.
Sifundza stated that she gained interest in the business after her sister invited her to come to the city center to help her sell her handcraft.
In 2016, she then decided to move to the city permanently and rented her own space at the market.
She now makes her own jewellery using beads and other material.
Her jewellery sells from as little as E20 to E300 depending on the customer’s design preference.
Sifundza sells earrings, bracelets, necklaces and other handmade accessories.
She said her profit is able to sustain her pays rent and other daily expenses. Again, she is able to send money back home.
She told this publication that COVID-19 has affected business due to travel restrictions between Eswatini and neibouring countries.
She said before COVID-19 hit the country she was able to showcase her work at the Trade and Exhibition Fare, Bushfire and other shows.
“We can be happy to have online showrooms/platforms/pages where we can showcase our work and people can place orders. Besides COVID, life is now digital; we now do things on our phones,” she said.
