MBABANE– A company with a heart.
The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) contributed a sum of E500 000 towards the construction of eight two-roomed houses in various communities of the country in partnership with Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society.
According to a statement by EEC Marketing and Communications Manager, Khaya Mavuso, this was after a proposal submitted to the company in efforts to help the people who were affected.
“In the list of vulnerable households that were also affected by the cyclone Eloise by having their main houses destroyed, the national society selected the most vulnerable households and assisted them to construct a two-roomed house per family of three people. The aim was to assist at least eight vulnerable families have decent houses for accommodation.
“Red Cross mobilised its volunteers to provide unskilled labour where they dug the foundation, provided locally available resources such as stones, water, and also assisted the builder. The project provided material for the house construction, and also contributed in paying the fees for the builder. Red Cross had a field officer who was responsible for supervising the house construction process and progress was reported to the Disaster Management Coordinator,” read the statement.
According to a statement shared on the EEC social media platforms, the EEC Board and Executive visited some of the beneficiaries of the constructed houses in Ngculwini, in the Manzini region where the company donated food hampers to the beneficiaries of the houses.
