MBABANE—Emaswati from eight constituencies across the country were once again praised for electing women into Parliament.
The praise was expressed by Lutsango Member Sibongile Dlamini, during her interview with Eswatini TV’s Senior Journalist Lington Gule yesterday, in preparation for second edition of Buganu Ceremony to take place at Hlane Royal Residence from yesterday to tomorrow.
The constituencies in question include Mbabane West (which elected Jane Mkhonta-Simelane), Mangcongco (Lomalanga Dlamini), Mtsambama (Sibongile Mamba), Maseyisini (Nokuthula Dlamini), Lomahasha (Zanele Mashaba), Siphofaneni (Nomalungelo ‘LaZwide’ Simelane), Ludzeludze (Nomkhosi Masuku), and Shiselweni I (Shawnette Henwood).
Dlamini praised these Emaswati for showing faith in women, saying they were doing exactly what was asked of them by Their Majesties. She said His Majesty the King, for an example, pleaded with Emaswati to elect women before last year’s national elections.
According to Dlamini, this showed that Their Majesties also had the belief that women could play a positive role in improving the economic status of the country and in changing the well-being of Emaswati in general.
Dlamini hoped that the women would advance the interests of women in Parliament and plead with members of society to stop abusing women. Dlamini said women were abused, despite numerous attempts to stop this scourge, such as the passing of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act of 2018.
Dlamini furthe hoped that the women would take care of themselves during the event because women were known for that. She further pleaded with them to ensure that the Hlane Royal Residence was left clean after the event.
On top of the eight women, the House of Assembly elected four women from each region, who included Tanele Magagula (Hhohho), Thandeka Mavuso (Manzini), Lindiwe Mamba (Shiselweni), and Futhi Ngcamphalala (Lubombo).
