MBABANE – If you think of swimming at Maguga Dam, read this.
The Water Affairs department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy has warned emaSwati to be careful of flooded Maguga Dam and nearby rivers.
The warning was shared by the Director of Water Affairs Makhosini Khoza this morning. He said a lot of people in Eswatini love to do picnics, braais and mini get-together parties around those areas hence the warning. He added that some come with children especially when it is a family picnic and they are warned to watch out.
“This overflow results from the flooded Komati River which runs from South Africa where there were heavy rains. We also had heavy rains too in the past few days which then added to the overflow and then it spills to Maguga dam,” said khoza.
He further cautioned the neighbouring areas of the Komati River and Maguga Dam to be watchful when doing their normal activities such as washing cars and clothes even when they pass by the river.
“The areas that may be affected include Luhhumaneni, kaNdeva, Kuvinjelweni, Ngowane, Nsangwini, Ntsanjeni, Madlangempisi, Nyonyane, Nyakatfo, Mpofu and Mananga. These areas should also be careful of the low-level crossings over the river,” he added.
Khoza also warned farmers who use water from the mentioned rivers and dams because they usually have their engines placed on the banks of the river. He added that they hope everything will get back to normal because of the sunny weather.
