MBABANE– His Majesty King Mswati III calls for Emaswati to embrace technology for culture to be preserved.

The King said this today when he dispersed Emabutfo, who have been taking part in the Incwala ceremony. The King dispersed Emabutfo at Ngabezweni Royal Residence.

Speaking during the event, the King has described technology as the right initiative to help in preserving culture.

He made an example of technological gadgets such as recorders and cameras, which he said could help in recording events like Incwala and Umhlanga so that future generations could know how such events were done.

The King said technology could also be used by Emaswati to record talks about the importance of cultural events. He called upon those who were in the know to record such talks and keep them for future generations.

He then observed that the current generation in the country seemed not to make a difference between general songs and specific songs made for Incwala. He said that was a mistake because such people were heard singing songs reserved for the cultural event.

The King warned that Incwala was a sacred event which was very important in the existence of Emaswati as a nation. He said it was important for such songs to be sung only during Incwala.
The King described this event as an occurrence where Emaswati were embarking on a prayer, where they thanked the almighty God for having preserved the nation and asking the creator to do the same.

The King also mentioned that such an event originated from heaven. The King stated that the Incwala holiday was a day before the end of last year. This, according to the King, meant that the heavens had blessed such an event.

He also stated that during Incwala, there were rains throughout the event and those were the blessings for the nation, according to the King.
