MBABANE – In what might come as a relief to members of the public, the Eswatini Medical Christian University will now be able to train and produce qualified doctors.

This transpired today during a press conference, which was held at the Ministry of Education’s Conference Room in Mbabane. The aim of the conference was to announce the accreditation of the institution’s Faculty of Medicine so that it can be able to adequately produce doctors.

During the conference, Minister for Education and Training Owen Nxumalo viewed this development as a transformative opportunity for the country to generate its own doctors. This, according to the minister, was going to be a massive contribution to the country’s health sector and to the well-being of Emaswati.

Nxumalo encouraged students with qualifying grades, passion for health care to apply for Medicine in the university.

He stated that this achievement stood as a pivotal moment in the university’s history, as it reinforced its dedication to providing high-quality medical education and training. The accreditation of the Faculty of Medicine, the minister said, was a notable step forward in cultivating a new generation of healthcare professionals in Eswatini, who would not only contribute to the development of the country’s healthcare sector, but would also serve to enhance the health and well-being of Emaswati.

He further expressed his pride in the strategic partnership forged between the EMCU and the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. This alliance, Nxumalo said, was set to enhance the quality of education provided by EMCU’s Faculty of Medicine, providing students with access to a diverse range of resources and expertise from both institutions. The partnership was also poised to open new avenues of collaboration in the field of medicine, contributing to the development of innovative solutions that address the evolving challenges in healthcare.

Nxumalo expressed gratitude to EMCU authorities for their unwavering commitment to securing accreditation for the Faculty of Medicine. This accomplishment would be a significant step towards the realisation of His Majesty’s directive, as articulated in the Speech from the Throne, to ensure that every Emaswati has access to quality healthcare.
