MBABANE– An opportunity for children to learn personal development skills in a fun and adventurous way has availed itself.
Nolu Events and Tours have curated an initiative that is aimed at bettering children by organising a ‘Kids Summer Camp’. The camp is set to take place at the Sibebe Resort from December 17 to 18, 2022. This is according to Nokulunga Mkhonta who is the Owner and Founder of Nolu Tours and Events.
During an interview, Mkhonta emphasised the importance of teaching children skills that would help stimulate their minds at a young age and said that this allowed them to carry what they had learnt well into adulthood.
Asked about the lessons and skills that the children would learn during the camp, the Founder stated that activities such as the ‘Trust Game’, would play a huge role in teaching the children about trust, working together and effective communication.
“We want the children to attain skills that will impact their personal development in a positive way. This is why we will require them to take part in some of the activities in teams to teach them the importance of working together to achieve a particular goal. We also want them to build trust among each other and instil the importance of effective communication within them. We believe this will help them acquire the skill of learning to communicate with others in a manner that is acceptable on both ends,” she said.
Mkhonta further mentioned how she had been observing some children around the area she lives in. In these observations, she noted that some children were still dealing with the traumas of COVID-19 and were still a bit afraid of going out to be with the rest of the world.
“Even though a lot of COVID-19 restrictions have been eased in the country, I noticed that there are still some children who cannot get the picture of being home all the time when the pandemic was at its peak out of their minds. The change from the children being at home all the time and immediately going back to school after was a big shift. This is why we at Nolu Tours and Events thought it would be such a good idea for the children to breathe and get fresh air through this camp,” said Mkhonta.
According to Mkhonta, the children would also learn a lot about the culture of Eswatini through the cultural tours that they would be embarking on. She went on to encourage parents to give their children the opportunity to take part in the camp as they would benefit a lot from it.
According to Nolu Event and Tours, the camp fees have been set at E950 for the whole weekend and this amount includes meals, camping fees, and activities such as swimming, quad biking, zip lining, slides and hiking. The camp is set for children from the ages eight to eleven years.
