This was said by ESNAU President, Dumisani Masondo this morning. This follows the hail storms that destroyed crops that had already grown, Masondo said there is still a chance for farmers to start afresh for some of the crops because adequate rains were foreseen for the next few weeks.

“Crops were completely ruined in the areas that were mostly affected by the hail but there are still areas where they did not experience it and crops are growing well hence we still have hope that we will have a good harvest. I will encourage farmers to take care of their crops, especially maize, as it is weeding season,” he said.

Masondo elaborated on how damaged the crops were, saying that somewhere in Sidvokodvo farmers were uprooting cabbages to feed them to livestock because they were badly damaged and could never recover.

He later encouraged the impacted farmers to try again and also mentioned that they had a meeting as ESNAU committee to discuss this matter and a way forward is to give it another chance while they brainstorm other programmes to help farmers.

“As ESNAU we are grateful for the rains, we also plead with farmers to join the union so that they can get the information on the upcoming programmes at first-hand,” said Masondo.
