MBABANE – In an effort to encourage economic growth and prosperity, the Government is dedicated to fostering a conducive environment for businesses by implementing supportive policies, investing in infrastructure development, and facilitating access to finance.
This was said by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo during the launch of the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2024 today (Wednesday, May 29, 2024) at Royal Villas. The awards seek to recognize the excellence of MSMEs in the country across several categories.
Khumalo asserted that this initiative closely aligned with the vision of His Majesty the King, which challenged and inspired them to achieve greater heights. To transform this vision into reality, he emphasised the crucial role of collaboration between Government, private sector, development partners, financial institutions, and entrepreneurs, underscoring that it was a team effort requiring the commitment of all stakeholders.
“We need to ensure that our entrepreneurs have access to financing, and we will do this by enhancing their business skills through top-notch training and mentorship programs. Moreover, we are determined to open up new markets for our outstanding products and services.” Khumalo said.
The minister articulated Government’s ambitious goal to position Eswatini as a hub of innovation and quality in Africa. Achieving this vision, according to Khumalo, required a concerted and coordinated effort by all stakeholders, including Government, which was committed to creating a favourable environment for businesses through supportive policies, infrastructure investment, and improved access to finance.
Khumalo emphasised the important role of financial institutions in catering to the specific needs of MSMEs, both domestically and internationally, in line with the Government’s vision to bolster Eswatini’s competitiveness in the global marketplace. Additionally, he highlighted the valuable support of business associations and trade bodies in offering knowledge-sharing platforms, networking opportunities, and capacity-building initiatives to prepare local entrepreneurs for the ever-evolving global market.
