MBABANE- The Kingdom of Eswatini has been announced as one of the Co-Chairs of the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
This meeting (CHOGM) will be held in Samoa in 2024.
The good news for Eswatini was revealed in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the ongoing Meeting attended by His Majesty King Mswati III.
The Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting on Small States (CMMSS), which is held on the sidelines of the CHOGM, has also developed an advocacy strategy, together with the United Nations to support the UN’s Decade of Action Agenda. This strategy focuses on three priority areas, namely, Economic vulnerability, Climate action and Access to finance and debt sustainability. As a part of this initiative, 12 Champions for the advocacy strategy have been identified. One of the Champions for the strategy, is Dr. Tambo E. Gina, Minister of Economic Planning and Development of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Discussions will cover multiple issues including sustainable and inclusive development, and post-COVID 19 recovery.
A final communiqué capturing the outcomes of their deliberations will be issued at the conclusion of CHOGM on Saturday 25th June.
