ESWATINI ATHLETES WIN MEDALS IN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

MBABANE – Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Bulunga has today presented Government financial incentives totalling E75 000 to Eswatini’s athletes who won medals at the recent CANA Zone IV Regional Swimming Championships & AFBC ZONE 4 Elite Regional Boxing Championships.

The country’s athletes won ten medals at the Swimming Championships & six medals at the Boxing Championships. Gold medalists have received E8 000 each while Silver & Bronze medalists have received E5 000 & E3 000 each respectively. Swimmer Hayley Hoy, who won three Gold medals, one Silver & two bronze, received E35 000. Here is what some of the representatives at the event said:

Minister Bulunga: “His Majesty’s Government, through our Ministry, continues to prioritise issues of adequately rewarding sporting excellence. With these tokens of appreciation, we hope that you will continue to work harder to break more barriers in sport and achieve all your dreams. Our commitment as a Ministry to you and the entire sporting fraternity is that we will continue to create an enabling environment for sport as an industry to thrive in Eswatini.”

Athletes’ Rep Thabiso Dlamini (Boxing): “We appreciate the opportunity we had to go and represent our country. It’s a lot of pressure but we travelled well. We appreciate the support we received from the Ministry, our teammates and our Association.”

In total, the awarded athletes are: Hayley Hoy; Luca Fraser; Simanga Dlamini (all Swimming); Temnotfo Dlamini; Zweli Dlamini; Sabelo Lukhele; Mancoba Dlamini; Thabiso Dlamini; and Sifiso Ngwenya (all Boxing).
