MBABANE – “Eswatini will not be left behind”.
These were Eswatini Boxing Association Chairperson’s words when addressing the media about the significance of his election into the Africa Boxing Confederation this past weekend.
The African Boxing Confederation is responsible for promoting and developing the sport of boxing in the African continent, working with the International Boxing Association. Lukhele expressed conviction that this will help the country be more aligned with the developments in the boxing fraternity, as he will be meeting with stakeholders of the game across Africa.
Lukhele remarked that, “As a country, I consider this a positive development for us as we are now in an opportune role. I will now be able to meet other African presidents as a whole – this will help as Eswatini will not be left behind because this is where we evaluate our resources. You find that sometimes other countries have sponsors if you present your case well – so we might be able to get sponsors to develop boxing as whole in the country.”
Lukhele added that as a Boxing association in the country they are very grateful to the Sports Council and other supporters of the boxing sport in the country because they are able to send different boxers to different games. “I want to greatly appreciate the immense support that we receive from the nation”.
Lukhele follows the footsteps of Pearl Dlamini who was elected in the International Boxing Association’s Board of Directors, as well as Thabiso Dlamini who was elected as a boxer representative in the International Boxers’ Commission.
