Dlamini said this today on his Facebook page, where he was reporting on his official assignment to the 19th NAM Summit currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda. The premier is representing His Majesty King Mswati III at the summit.

Dlamini said during the NAM Summit, Eswatini emphasised the importance of political and international security. The premier clarified that political and international security included recognition of international law, peaceful settlement of disputes, and non use of force.

He said the fight against terrorism was also another matter that Eswatini committed to work on, in collaboration with other NAM member countries. The matters pertaining to the United Nations Security Council were also discussed, according to the prime minister.

The premier also pleaded with other NAM countries to work together to green their economies, while being energy sufficient. This, according to the PM, should be done to address sustainable development challenges, which were driven by the apparent need for energy to catalyse the development of these countries.

The NAM Summit was under the theme: Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence. The summit started on Monday (January 15, 2024) and ended yesterday (Saturday, January 20, 2024).

Today, the delegates from the 150 NAM Member States are supposed to depart from Uganda to their respective countries. However, the same cannot be said about the prime minister.

He is supposed to go to Italy to take part in the Italy-Africa Summit.

The summit is expected to take place on January 28 and 29, 2024, where Italy is expected to commit towards helping Africa in its development agenda. Italy is set to take over the presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) nations in 2024 and has pledged to make Africa a central theme while it is at the helm. The meeting is expected to also focus on energy production and how this resource can be made available in all the Africa countries. According to media reports, the summit was supposed to take place in November last year, but could not, due to conflicts taking place in the European continent.
