MBABANE – Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation urges emaSwati to watch epileptic people during the rainy season.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation on Letishisako program this morning, the Director of Operations, Abraham Ntshalintshali said water and fire are common triggers of epilepsy and people should be warned during these rainy days.
“We usually have epilepsy accidents during rainy days, I would like to ask everyone who has an epileptic relative to accompany them and not to assume that they are used to the pathways that they use every day especially those using bridged and or those walking along rivers. This is to avoid accidents of falling into the river,” he said.

Maphalala also mentioned that because of the rain people tend to make fire to help them ease the cold caused by the rain. He said Epileptic people would also join in the fire putting them into high chances of being triggered.
“If you are epileptic you are advised not to go near fireplaces, when you do I advise you to have someone near just in case something occurs,” said Maphalala.
He later invited emaSwati to join the Epilepsy Marathon that will take place on the 3rd of February 2024 and the deadline for early registration is this Saturday. He said the people registered for this year’s marathon doubled the number they had in 2022.
